Where the Crawdads Sing

Recommended: Yes

Summary:  A realistic fiction book about a child that grows into a woman and the life she led impacted by abandonment, survival and the natural world set in the marshes of North Carolina.  It combines the nature and nurture theories into one developed woman.  Author is very detailed in the vision, emotion and natural setting.

Thoughts:  Jealous of Kya’s lifestyle and the freedom she had, I realized and became very thankful for the family in my life as I continued to read.  Kya was free to do whatever moved her, whenever she wanted.  She had nothing but time on her side and used it for her passions–the love of the natural world, the love of the marsh and taking care of herself. I learned the inter-dependencies of family is core to my heart; I am a strong woman with a support system to hold me up and this is something Kya had to do all on her own.
